Sohrai : Harvest festival and mural painting tradition in Hazaribagh -
related to Rural tourism i n Jharkhand

The Bhelwara village in eastern Hazaribagh district is the last retreat for the Sohrai Harvest art practiced by the women of the household who paint their mud mouse walls with exquisite and diverse designs and forms related to harvest and rituals. The paintings are done with nature earth colours and clay-colours using chewed twigs (datwan) or cloth swabs daubed in earth colours to fill in the painted form. The village is one of the last reminiscent of Traditional and tribal Arts where the visitor can stay or travel to see this art during the Diwal Festival of Lights season starting 13th of November onwards. We offer a one night- two days package which can be expanded to see other intersting places of interest during a days visit like - Konar Dam (picincs), Parasnath (Jai temples), Isco (rock art site), Sanskriti museum & Canary hill in Hazaribagh town.
